On 13 June, within the framework of the seven-day official visit to Da Nang of the Japan Coast Guard ship ECHIGO, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr. Ho Ky Minh, met with the ship’s leaders led by Colonel Toyota Chikara.

Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh said that he was very pleased to welcome the Japanese visitors. He also expressed his delight at the fine development of bilateral ties with Japan over recent years, the friendly cooperative relations between Da Nang and Japanese localities as well as great contributions given by Japanese enterprises to the socio–economic development of the city in recent years.
The city leader added that the visit would help intensify the comprehensive strategic partnership between Viet Nam and Japan as well as the cooperative relations between Da Nang and Japanese localities. He also said he hoped that the Japan Coast Guard would assist Viet Nam’s coast guard force with search and rescue work as well as maritime safety and law enforcement activities at sea.
Colonel Toyota Chikara expressed his gratitude for the warm affection given to the Japanese visitors by the city’s authorities and military forces. The Japanese Colonel said that he was very impressed with infrastructure and cargo handling activities at the Tien Sa Port.
He reported that the ship will conduct a joint exercise with Coast Guard Force, Zone 2, and play a volleyball match during the visit. He added that he believed that the visit would promote understanding and friendship between Japan and Viet Nam as well as the two marine police forces.
The 105.4m-long and 14.6m-wide ECHIGO has a displacement of 3,100 tonnes. It is equipped with numerous modern electronic warfare systems. Most notably, its stern features a helicopter landing deck.
