Acting Consul General Timothy Liston said that Da Nang has been chosen to host AELW 2017 due to its great potential and strengths, improved infrastructure as well as professional human resources. He stressed that hosting AELW 2017 would be a great opportunity for Da Nang, and Viet Nam as a whole, to advertise its beautiful images to international friends as well as promote economic, tourism and trading cooperation among member economies. He added that the US government is willing to cooperate with Da Nang to help organise a successful AELW 2017.
Vice Chairman Tuan said he would like US diplomatic offices to work closely with Da Nang’s relevant agencies to ensure the success of the upcoming event, as well as to appeal for more US businesses to invest in the city. The city leader reported that 43 US businesses are now operating in Da Nang, with a total investment of over 500 million USD, and the city’s exports to the USA hit around 250 million USD last year. “The US government is cooperating well with Da Nang to implement the project to remediate dioxin contamination at the former Da Nang US Air Base. In addition, various exchange activities between US and Vietnamese naval forces have helped to tighten the bilateral understanding and cooperation between the two countries”, said Vice Chairman Tuan.
