The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2018 officially began on 30 April. The opening ceremony featured stunning arts performances, following by a dazzling match between the Polish team and the host team Da Nang – Viet Nam who showcased their best pageantry while touching on the special topic of Love.
The opening ceremony witnessed the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh.
The 20-minute performance of the Polish team called Surex Firma Rodzinna was inspired by the image of a special bridge connecting Frankfurt (Oder) in Germany with Slubice in Poland, which has become a symbol of open borders between the two countries. The display by the Polish contestants also introduced the memorable history of the two countries to the audience.
The host team Da Nang-Viet Nam treated pyro-lovers with a dazzling show featuring the allure of such beautiful bridges spanning the romantic Han River showing off their distinctive architectural styles such as Rong (Dragon), Tran Thi Ly and Thuan Phuoc.
All eyes were on the skies as colourful explosions rained a sea of red green and yellow stars from the clouds.
DIFF 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the DIFF brand name. The fireworks festival, which started in 2008, has been built as a famous brand of the city and attracts tourists from all over the world. Seven international teams from Poland, France, the US, Italy, Hong Kong (China), Sweden, Portugal plus the host team Da Nang - Viet Nam, compete at DIFF 2018.
The city hoped that Da Nang would become a rendezvous for international friends and a ‘must see’ destination.
As scheduled, France and the US will be the second performers on 26 May, whilst Italy and Hong Kong (China) will perform on 2 June, and Sweden and Portugal will light up the night on 9 June. The festival’s last date, the grand finale featuring the two best teams from the eight, will take place on 30 June, where the winner will be chosen.
This year’s festival, entitled ‘The Legend of Bridges’, will include night festivals, food and music shows every night along with fireworks performances.
Last year, Italy’s Martarello team won the title after a spectacular performance on the Han River.
